Honestly, I've been coming to House of Braces in New York for a few years now, and I couldn't be happier with my experience. The staff are super nice, and the whole atmosphere just feels friendly and welcoming. If you're looking to get your teeth fixed with braces or Invisalign in NYC, this is definitely the place to go. They really make you feel comfortable throughout the whole process.

So I finished my braces treatment here in New York years ago, and they did a decent job with that part. But honestly, when they removed my braces, they filed my teeth way too much. Now my teeth are so sensitive, especially during these winter months in NYC, that it actually hurts to smile. It's been 4-5 years, and I'm still dealing with this issue. I did recommend someone here once, which is why I'm leaving this review now.
We're sorry to hear about your sensitivity concerns with your braces treatment in New York. At House of Braces, we take all patient feedback seriously and will review our procedures to ensure better outcomes. Please contact our New York office so we can discuss how to address this.
If I could give zero stars, I would. Paid $6500 in cash because they said credit cards have high fees, though thankfully it was in installments. Just had a few teeth too close together, but after several years of braces in New York, it still wasn't fixed properly. They clearly don't care about results or customer experience, and kept finding reasons to charge more later. Even though they're busy, I'd recommend asking your doctor for a better orthodontist recommendation.
We're sorry to hear about your concerns with treatment duration and costs for your braces in New York. At House of Braces, we strive for transparent communication about all aspects of orthodontic care. We'll review our payment explanation processes to ensure better clarity for future patients.
Been thinking about this place lately - I got my braces here in New York back in middle school. If I could do it over, I wouldn't come here. Only reason I did was because they accepted my Fidelis Care insurance. Watch out though - they scam kids whose parents don't understand insurance coverage. They told me I had to pay for retainers out of pocket after braces, which was a lie since my insurance covered everything. My parents had to make a big fuss to get it sorted out.
We apologize for the insurance confusion regarding your retainers after braces treatment in New York. At House of Braces, we're improving our insurance explanation process to ensure all orthodontic care details are clearly communicated to patients and families from the start.
I was very satisfied with the service provided here. All the staff were nice and friendly each time I visited. I saw a big improvement with my teeth and was happy with how it came out. Overall, I would recommend this place!
Do not come to this place in New York. They're a total scam. Over three years of braces treatment here, I only saw Dr. Lai twice - at the beginning and when removing my braces. The workers are super unprofessional. Dr. Lai is an NYU professor who lets students practice on patients. Every visit had a new intern working on my teeth, and brackets kept falling off right after appointments. They didn't even charge me immediately for everything.
We apologize for your negative experience with our braces treatment in New York. At House of Braces, we're committed to providing consistent, professional care. We'll review our patient interaction protocols and supervision of clinical training to improve our orthodontic services.
Got my braces done here in New York and recently had them removed - terrible experience overall. The staff and doctors seemed inexperienced and were really rough. Every time they opened my mouth, they'd tug it open painfully. They also don't tell you everything about costs until after you finish braces treatment. Honestly, if you're looking for braces in NYC, find another place. This one feels like a scam.

Wouldn't recommend this orthodontist in New York. Sure, it's popular, but that doesn't mean it's good. The lead dentist is rude and impatient - he yanks your mouth open and shut when working on you. A few years ago when I started braces here (and my teeth weren't even that bad to begin with), he completely filed down my fangs and left huge gaps between my teeth. They looked way worse after than before.
We're sorry to hear about your experience with our orthodontic care in New York. At House of Braces, we aim to provide respectful, careful treatment for all patients. We'll address these concerns with our team to ensure better patient communication and treatment approaches.
Don't come here for orthodontic care in New York, just don't. Yeah, it's popular with Asian families, but my experience was terrible. They had me extract two adult teeth I didn't even need, and now I have severe root resorption that could've been prevented. Dr. Lai doesn't take time to explain things or address concerns. If you're a parent in NYC looking for braces for your kids, there are way better places on the Lower East Side. Trust me on this one.
We're sorry to hear about your concerns with tooth extraction and communication during your orthodontic treatment in New York. At House of Braces, we take all patient feedback seriously and will review our consultation and treatment planning processes to ensure better outcomes.
It's been 5 years since I last I came to this place. I came here for a better smile but left with a lopsided smile. I have no confidence showing my smile and people often assumed that I'm always upset because of that. I wore my braces for 7 years and I wish I had taken them off sooner and went elsewhere. Now that I'm an adult with a well paying job, I can finally afford braces again. After consulting with an ACTUAL orthodontist at Diamond Braces, I learned that my lopsided smile could had been avoided had I not undergo the extraction. As some had mentioned in the reviews, the typical person wears braces for only 2-4 years so this place should be a major red flag especially if you're on Medicaid and you're going beyond 5 years with no signs of ever finishing. In that case, your Medicaid is most likely being milked and he won't take off your braces unless you demand it and sign some consent form. There's also irreversible implications to wearing braces for a long time and you can research about this on Reddit.
For the patients reading this, please be wary and don't be afraid to call this man out when he gaslight you with hypothetical responses to your questions, like blaming his dirt job on your "genetics". Don't be afraid to demand removal if you notice your smile had gotten worse. For the people looking into getting braces, please don't make the mistake I made by coming here. There are a lot of practices out there that accept all forms of payment including cash and Medicaid. I feel sorry for the patients so I hope this review could bring some justice.
Dr. Yon Lai is in my opinion not a good doctor. I can barely ask a question and even when I do it is ignored or just unheard. But even worse was the reception. The people are VERY rude. However, the nurses and assistants inside are much kinder, one of them threw together a 2 minute goody bag for me when I had an appointment on my birthday, which was really nice of them. Arguments will be common here, because it really does feel like you get scammed, such as not being clear if a retainer will be covered as well.
My experience here is a nightmare coming to reality. My teeth are uneven and it look worse then before. I talked to Dr. Lai many times and he just pushes me aside before I can even finish my sentence. Before I got braces here, I did not know about google reviews and I thought this was a good place but I was wrong.
2021 Update: It's been two years since I took off my braces. I just want to say that I still regret coming here especially for such a long time (nearly 7 years). I still don't have the confidence to smile. With a bite worse than before I had braces, I am constantly biting my lip and bleeding a lot from it.
As a word of advice, I just want to warn those that have been here for over 4 years that you're putting your teeth at risk. Braces are not meant to be worn for such extensive periods; 1-4 years at most. Wearing your braces for such a long time will cause your teeth to shorten and may even fall out. Prior to getting braces here, there is a signed agreement between the patient and Dr. Lai that states "root resorption" to be a side effect and that Dr. Lai will not be responsible for this. Please be smart and be careful.
The service at this Orthodontist is very good. The nurses and doctor is very nice. I got my braces done here and i’m obsessed with my new teeth. In addition, they have a big TV that keeps you entertained.
Dr. Yon Lai was very good! he was personable! Response to any calls herself!
The staff made sure I had all the information I needed, regarding treatment and payments, they show my the video about foods I can or can't eat, how to wear my rubber bands, and they were very friendly and answered any questions I had.
As for the office in general, it is very sanitary.
All in all, would definitely recommend this place for treatment!
Dr. Lai is absolutely awesome!! He is such a sweet person and always being so patient to me. He takes good care of my teeth. I had braces on for 2 years. Now I have it removed for 6 months. I am so happy about my teeth and I feel more confident when I smile!!
I m satisfied with the services. From beginning to the end. Started braces when I started dating my wife, then got it remove few days before my wedding at flushing location. Now having my broke retainer replace. For those talk about they only want money, they running a business. This is not free, I would not want them to ran out of business doing things for cheaper prices. All those employees to pay, rents, expenses. You think employees will work for free. You think the landlord will decrease the rent....
Please do not listen to his most recent reviews. EVERYONE that goes to him knows that he is a really bad orthodontist. He's either paying people or manually rating the place to make himself so it don't not look as bad. Half a year ago, this place's review was a 1.4 stars rating! I was a patient of Dr Lai from 2013 up until 2018. Dr. Lai and he messed up my teeth! After taking off my braces on December 2018, I felt a lot of pain inside my teeth as they made cracking noises when I eat. I went to my local dentist and she took an x-ray image to compare it to my teeth before I had braces. The dentist says that my teeth has lost 50% of the root (root resorption) due to intense tightening in a short period of time. She also said that my teeth would had fell off had I kept my braces on for another year! I know that this place accepts the insurance for low incomers but, if you value your teeth, DON'T COME HERE. You will regret it because he does this with all his patients and they all have some sort of teeth issue! He only see his patients as money and he also got a nasty attitude if you have anything to ask. I wish I never came to this place to begin with even if my insurance covered the braces! My teeth can never go back to the way it was even if I get braces again.
Came to this clinic in New York two years ago for braces, and honestly, the service quality is really high. I was super pleased with how hard the staff worked and how talented the dentists are here. They keep the place really clean too, which matters a lot to me. If you need braces or just want your teeth checked in NYC, this is definitely the clinic to visit for orthodontic care.

Been coming to this New York office since 2011 for braces and retainer treatment, and honestly, it's been great. The staff are all welcoming and friendly, plus the scheduling process is really streamlined. Some days get busy, so there might be a bit of a wait, but nothing too bad if you register on time. Dr. Lai himself is caring and even makes recommendations that fit my lifestyle. Really satisfied with their orthodontic services here in NYC.

Every appointment is literally a waste of my time because the issues I point out with my teeth being too pushed back or crooked are ignored and are said to "will be fixed at the end of your treatment." They took impressions of my still crooked teeth, making retainers that don't fit and which I have to pay for. And refuse to understand that one of my tooth is not aligned with the rest and cause a gap to form. They are HIGHLY unprofessional with the way they act towards patients and you are basically used as a tool for his interns to train on. Would not recommend this place
