Moving to Roanoke, VA was tough because we had to leave Dr. Mat behind as our kid's pediatrician. He was just so genuine and really cared about our child's health. Honestly wish we could've brought him with us! Hope his practice here in Roanoke keeps doing amazing work with check ups and all the care kids need.

Refused to accept my son because we will not take covid vaccination. Very concerning Healthcare can turn away humans regardless of their belief. This appears to be more so about politics rather than general health, as the office is given miney when a patient gets vaccinated. I felt we were discriminated against solely based upon our belief - if the office is fully vaccinated, I would assume they wouldn't be at risk if said vaccination does as WHO suggests.
Hands down the best pediatric facility I've ever been to here in Roanoke, VA. Dr. Mat and his staff actually listen, take time to answer questions, and show real compassion for the kids. If you're looking for a pediatrician in the area who does thorough check ups and really cares, this is absolutely the place to go.

We've been to four other pediatricians before, and they were all pretty lackadaisical with our kids' care. Dr. Mat in Roanoke, VA is truly a godsend—impeccable bedside manner, tons of knowledge, and absolutely top-notch with children. We drive over an hour and a half just to see him for check ups and vaccines. He's literally that awesome. Wish I could give 10 stars instead of 5.

Best pediatrician ever! We had to move away from Roanoke, but loved Dr. Mat so much that we drove several hours back for two of our baby's wellness visits. Haven't found anyone even close to as good in our new area. His practice is clean and cozy, he's up-to-date on research, and he actually remembers details about our son's health from visit to visit. Seriously can't recommend him enough for check ups and new baby care in Roanoke.

Dr. Mat is the very best! My 4 year old had his first ear infection so I took him in and he was put on antibiotics. I took him back a week later because the infection wasn't going away and he now had swelling behind his ear. Dr. Mat immediately identified this as a mastoid and sent us to ER for a catscan. My son ended up needing emergency surgery and the surgeon said if we had waited another 72 hours we would have been looking at a very different outcome because the infection had reached his brain. My son has fully recovered and we are so thankful Dr. Mat knew what was going on and got us the help we needed. THANK YOU!!
We just had our first appointment here and I'm so glad we found this practice. It was a breath of fresh air to not be rushed and to have my child seen in a comfortable environment. I appreciated that the exam room didn't feel like a cold sterile space and when my son got examined and vaccinated I was able to hold him myself. Dr. Mat listened to my concerns and gave me detailed and relevant information. It's a hike for us to get here, but it will be worth it to get quality care.

I joked with Dr. Mat that we have been wanting to write him fan mail, and he suggested we could do a Google review if we wanted! So glad I followed the hunch to transfer our 12 (now 13) year old’s care over to him. He is fully connected with all the Carilion records, has sick child appointments in the afternoons, and is very responsive about getting back to people, so there are none of the downsides one might associate with solo practices, but all of the upsides - and the phone gets answered, usually on the first ring! High quality, focused attention, plenty of time for each appointment, great rapport with both kids and adults. Good at seeing both the forest and the trees, insightful on both acute and chronic issues, and also great at tracking what is happening with other specialists. Overall, good diagnostic sense. Some good health-oriented one-liners and comments that have really stuck with our fairly complex and wary child and get quoted back at me later. Have I ever before had my kid yell across the parking lot to me, “He’s just so great!” after a doctor’s appointment? No, no I have not. My spouse asked me after a recent appointment, “Is this guy real? How did we get so lucky?”
We travel around the country and have seen quite the variety of doctors and practices, and Dr. Mat takes the cake of all of them. He is incredibly personable, friendly, and thorough. Bringing our daughter in for her wellness check felt like bringing her to a doctor in the family. He didn't rush through the appointment, and made sure to take the time to make sure any questions or concerns we had were addressed.
Roanoke Pediatrics is a breath of fresh air from the bigger practices in town. Dr. Mat Henderson is knowledgeable, friendly, responsive, attentive and respectful. He took his time, was thorough and answered all questions. My toddler says he is funny! There is adequate parking, accessible entry and the exam room is clean, bright and welcoming. We had an excellent first visit and plan to return!
Dr. Mat is one of the most knowledgeable, down to earth physicians that I've ever encountered. He truly has a passion for what he does and that shows in the care he gives to every patient he sees. I always feel seen and heard in regards to any concerns I may have. Hands down one of the best pediatricians you will find!!
