As a person who has had a variety of dental issues over the years, I have seen a number of dentists, both in this area and elsewhere. I can say without hesitation that Dr. Rottschalk's office is the best I have ever visited. The doctor himself is a skilled practitioner, with an excellent, totally patient-focused, chairside manner. The staff is kind, friendly, and caring. I worked with Heather on my last visit, and she was just wonderful. If you need a dentist for any reason, I would highly recommend Dr. Rottschalk's office.
We left Rottschalk after the pandemic. Honestly, the staff and most of the hygienists are great (there’s one that’s very rough and presumptuous in their conversation). The low review rating is because of poor treatment of the front desk. Disorganized, abrupt & rude, and terrible follow-up - so much that after being with them since childhood, I left. My family has also left the practice. I’m leaving this review in hopes that they’ll correct the customer service side of their otherwise good practice.
After several years of not visiting a dentist, I finally made an appointment with Dr. Rottschalk. From the moment I entered the office, any anxiety I had dissipated. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. They do a fantastic job of explaining the procedures and answering any questions you may have. Though they are out of my insurance network, I will be returning to Dr. Rottschalk’s office for all my future dental needs. Great all around experience!
The office is very nice and extremely clean. The reception team were polite, quick and courteous with a shout out to Diana who went above & beyond for me! They have the absolute comfiest dental chairs I've ever relaxed in & Dr. Rottschalk is absolutely delightful and very caring!!
Dr. John Rottschalk is the best dentist I have ever been to in my life. I am terrified of going to the dentist due to past experiences at other dental offices but now I no longer am. He and his team walk you through everything that will be going on step by step. Everyone is always kind there and willing to work around your schedule. I could not recommend a better dentist who actually cares about each patient and takes his time. Love the clean office and love all the staff there. I fly all the way from Florida just to have this office work on my teeth!! So if you’re looking for one, this is the best one.
The quality of care was impeccable however; the customer service by the billing department needs an overhaul. After rendering service I provided the lady with two insurance carriers assuming that they would bill my primary and secondary. Prior to departure, I asked the billing department if I would have a co-pay given that I have two carriers. I was informed that they would notify me if there was an issue but I should be fine. One month later, I received a bill. I questioned the amount given that I have two insurances. The billing department was beyond rude and at points raised her voice with explanation that they forgot to add the secondary insurance and that my primary was outside of the network. My issue is that I should’ve been informed prior to receiving treatment that there was an out of network issue. My second issue is the nonchalant attitude of failing to enter both insurances. I have zero faith that they will submit my secondary and I would prefer not to be stuck with a bill. As stated, the quality of care was noteworthy. The dentist was outstanding. The hygienist was the best that I’ve ever encountered. It’s challenging to leave a practice because of poor customer service from the billing department.
Dr. John Rottschalk and his staff are very polite and personable. The office is top notch, and comfortable. The staff was also very prompt, and I did not have to wait at all. An emergency came up, so I called his office early Monday morning. Dr John was able to see me on the same day later that afternoon. It’s rare to find a specialist that is willing to see you on the same day.
This is hands down the best dentist office I've ever been to in Fairview Heights, IL. The staff is always friendly and speaks kindly about others, plus I never feel rushed. They explain things so clearly, which really helps with understanding procedures like cosmetic dentistry. All smiles every time I'm there!

I was told MULTIPLE times by the staff here that my insurance would pay for any preventative services, so I went in for a routine cleaning. I was then hit up for $236 dollars out of pocket. After fighting it out with the staff who had misinformed me, they refused to zero out my balance. I felt like a victim of a con operation. Not a pleasant experience.
I would recommend this dentist IF they accept your Dental Insurance. They did not participate in mine - Dental Blue (Blue Cross Blue Shield Dental Plan) and charged us the full price for services that the plan did not pay.
In the office, they were very friendly and did very good work, from my perspective. I may have stayed with them if they had observed the rates and deductions of my Dental insurance.
