Had root canal therapy done at Dr. Gastaldi's office in Staten Island a while back, and honestly, it caused me issues later that led to extractions. The prices were also higher than other places I've seen in Staten Island, NY. Hopefully they've improved things since then.
We appreciate you sharing your concerns about your past root canal therapy in Staten Island. We take all feedback seriously as we work to improve our services. If you'd like to discuss further, please contact our office. - Dr. Michael Gastaldi DDS
I suffered with months of pain and discomfort after bridge work and root canal. I HAD NO PAIN WALKING INTO THIS OFFICE. NOT EVEN A CAVITY! This was supposed to be superficial bridge work and that was it.
Trauma, pain, suffering, sleepless nights, missed work is what I ended up dealing with. I ended up leaving this office because of the horrible mismanagement and misdiagnosing of my care. They didn’t know why I was in pain and they thought I had trigeminal neuralgia. A NEUROLOGICAL DISORDER. What!? Terrible. I seeked a second opinion. New doctors had to perform the bridge and root canal along with another root canal all over again AND root canal surgery (Apicoectomy) to fix this mess he caused me. They felt so bad for me for what I went through and what was done to me. When I found out what was wrong with me, I called his office and told them. I asked for a call back from him. It took Dr. Gastaldi a week to call me back. I was with all infection in my sinus along with inflamed necrotic dead root nerves for months and he couldn’t find 5 minutes in his day to call me back to discuss. My case was not urgent to him. It was clear he did want to face the music and talk to me. When I eventually spoke to him 10 days later, he lied about talking to my root canal specialist. Another doctor spoke on his behalf. I caught him in a lie on top of this! I got my insurance involved and they found that he was NOT in standard of care. THIS WAS THE MOST TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. I eventually sat down face to face with Dr. Gastaldi to discuss a refund and he cried to me about a personal dilemma in his life. Cried!! THAT IS NOT MY PROBLEM! COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL! What about my dilemma? What about all my tears? All my pain and suffering? My missed work?! The focus is on me, NOT YOU! If your life dilemmas are going to affect your ability to call your patients back who are in PAIN, PAIN THAT YOU CAUSED, then you shouldn’t be a doctor. Texting a patient at 10:30pm 10 days later is inappropriate too! Don’t fall for his tears. He will try to make you feel bad for him so you don’t sue him. His front desk secretary thinks she’s a doctor and tried telling me it was “because of the plane” that I was was in so much pain. I don’t want to talk to a secretary! Completely out of her scope to determine the cause of my pain. YOU ARE NOT A DOCTOR. YOU ARE IN NO POSITION TO DIAGNOSE MY PAIN. YOU ARE NOT EDUCATED.
I did get my co pay back because he knows he’s at fault but I am still $10,000 out of pocket to fix his mess. The hour wait time in the waiting room is atrocious too. The office is outdated and old. Technology is not up to par. They should not be doing root canals. Go somewhere else more reputable. This guy is a joke. Look at reviews first despite who recommends a dentist for you. It could save you from pain, suffering, surgeries and thousands of dollars.
Everyone is always friendly and professional. Nidah is fantastic. She takes my preferences into consideration and always makes me as comfortable as possible. I recommend this office to everyone.
Trash. Doctor is great. Front Staff don't know how to to do their job. I had an appointment for 2. I qould not have saved it in my calendar. An old woman says I am early and its not tiil 4. I rescheduled, BUT WILL MAKE SURE TO WASTE THEIR TIME AND NOT SHOW UP. They could have called and reminded me. Dumb, incompetent service with the receptionist.
This is by far the best dental Office staff and the most thorough and top of the line facility I have ever been to. Dr Michael Gastaldi explains your issues thoroughly and if need be, the specialist you need, comes to his office for your services under his supervision! He is at the Top of his field and I would highly recommend him! Vicki and Eleanor at the front desk are accommodating and efficient in every way and Marie DeCarlo is the best hygienist ever!!
I had a very unpleasant experience. I went there for the first time with my two children ages(1 and 4 years old) and I am also expecting. I called yesterday to verify my insurance was excepted and was told it was. When I got into the office the woman at front desk was not welcoming at all. After fillling out paperwork and giving it to her I asked if she needed my insurance as well and she stated yes. She then asked where my husband worked after receiving the cards after I told her she said she would have to call the number on the back of the card. She was not on the phone for more than 5 minutes to try and confirm the insurance was covered before stating they will not allow me to speak to a representative without the DOB which I provided to her(I am pretty sure I know my husband’s DOB). She then stated I needed to call. I am pretty sure it is the reception’s job to confirm insurance. No more than 2 minutes later a male walked in who she proceeded to kiss in front of myself and two children and then had him take a seat at the chair directly next to her at her at the front desk. She sat there for as long as I was on the phone doing nothing work related(I was on the phone for about 30 minutes) and she was not on an official break. After he was leaving she then stated let me see if she made any progress. Keep in mind this was 30 minutes later as she watched me struggle with keeping me kids occupied and make the call she was supposed to make. I confirmed my coverage but by this time I did not want to receive services from this facility sadly because the frontline staff was very inappropriate. I asked for my paperwork I filled out for my kids and upon doing this she asked what did they say. I simply told her do not worry about it because it was her job instead of entertaining her boyfriend. She then stated that it was my responsibility. I did not get to meet the dentist but he should know that your frontline represents you and this woman was a poor representation of his facility.
The front desk receptionist at this Staten Island office had a real 'no-can-do' attitude about verifying my insurance for teeth cleaning. Even after I confirmed with my insurance that pregnant women get three cleanings a year, she still wouldn't help. For a dental office in Staten Island, NY, you'd expect better customer service when scheduling appointments.
We're sorry to hear about your experience with insurance verification for teeth cleaning at our Staten Island office. We're reviewing our procedures to ensure better service for all patients. Please contact us if you'd like to discuss further. - Dr. Michael Gastaldi DDS
They are horrible!!! Do not go there! I went there to do cleaning. I have never had any issues with my teeth except I would clean them once a year. I needed a cleaning and I went to their office, and ended up with $3500 bill. I had no issues but one of their dentists insisted that I had some horrible problem and I need to go to their specialist. I went to their specialist and she said that the other dentist was wrong and I had perfect teeth - there were no issues. So because it was a snap in their judgment or they just tried to cheat me, my insurance company refused to pay for that specialist visit, so now they are sending me bill to pay for it. I will never pay for it and if needed, I will sue them for malpractice (making up problems where there was none). My attempt to negotiate with them failed. They had very rude people at the reception. They basically told me that if they sent me a bill, I must pay it, and it is the end of the story. Well, I would rather take them to court than pay this bill.
Very unwelcoming experience. I was asked to basically diagnose myself. Extremely long wait time. Front staff was very short with me. The office itself has outdated medical equipment. Poor client care overall. Would not recommend to friends and family. Maybe a last resort for a cleaning at best. No comment on billing yet but I’m sure I’m in for a treat once I receive a bill based on the minimal information received from the front desk
I went there in May and gave them the details of how I am losing insurance soon because of my 26th birthday but am also leaving for the summer and wanted to know if it was possible to have my extraction and bridge done when i get back. (i didn't want the extraction done because =id lose weight for about a week and im a professional athlete so i was trying to prevent that) BUT I would have gotten it done at that time if i knew they were going to screw me . They said no problem well put the order in before your insurance is up and come back when you are home from your sport and we will get it done. Well I come back during the time I said I was going to and they had no clue what i was talking about and never put the order in. So a 26 year old who just lost his insurance has to pay out of pocket for issues with his teeth he thought was being taken are of by his primary dentist. I'm still unemployed with no insurance and think about how i was screwed over by this dentist almost everyday. When I called the office they told me they didn't have a record of me being there since 2014 and that I wasn't going to get my extraction or bridge done and basically I was at a loss. Offered no help/guidance on what to do or where to go and I honestly despise the people in there now. I was lied to and given the runaround by these people and although the dentists did do good work, what happened was unprofessional and a small dental office should never do to a person what they did to me.
