Without question the best dentist I've ever been to. I'm highly anxious, but Dr. K made me feel so comfortable. I didn't even feel the novocaine shot—seriously. They had no issue with my mom in the room (I'm in my 30s), and he listened to my concerns about fluoride without judgment. Walked me through every step of my filling, which took about 8 minutes. I took my daughter who has a disability, to Dr. K for dental work under anesthesia. I have already paid over $6,000, and we were finally at the last stage with just two crowns to complete.
At a prior visit, I gave her a tiny piece of lorazepam, and the crown was placed successfully with no issues. Dr. K never mentioned there was a problem. But when it came time for the second crown, he had ordered the wrong size — it was too big — so he couldn’t complete the work that day. We had to wait for the correct crown to come in and return for another appointment.
At this most recent visit, when the correct crown was finally available, he asked if I had given her lorazepam. I said no, because I didn’t think it was necessary. He said he would give her something “to take the edge off.” His nurse then brought out a large cup of pink liquid — which I later learned was midazolam. My daughter is only 90 pounds, and I was alarmed at the large amount being pushed on her. I allowed her just a few sips before stopping, but the nurse insisted that I give her the entire cup and pressured me to continue. I refused, but even with just a portion, the sedation hit her hard.
After the procedure, my daughter came out in a wheelchair, extremely wobbly, unable to stand or walk on her own. I was horrified — I had never been told this was a possibility. As her mother, I had the right to know that she would be so heavily drugged.
When I tried to question Dr. K about this, he became aggressive, raised his voice, and told me he could not have done the procedure without it. He even made her attempt to stand to “prove me wrong,” though she was clearly unsteady. He then stormed off and slammed the door. His behavior was unprofessional, disrespectful, and frightening in the context of treating a vulnerable patient.
If Dr. K could not safely perform this procedure without administering such a high dose of midazolam to a 90-pound girl.
and pressuring me to make her drink it all he should have been honest from the start. Parents, especially those of children with special needs, deserve full transparency, respect, and safe medical care. My experience was the complete opposite, and I feel an obligation to warn others.
Dr. Patrie was absolutely awesome! He was extremely professional, took the time to explain everything clearly, and made the entire process easy and stress-free. I truly appreciated his calm and caring approach—it made a big difference. Highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great dentist who genuinely cares about his patients!
