Had a dental emergency in Roanoke, VA, and Grandin Family Dentistry saw my husband the same day—took care of him immediately with a very friendly staff. Update: I've transferred my whole family here now. Dr. Gallaher is amazing! My son, who has Autism and is sensitive to pain, needed a root canal, and Dr. Gallaher made sure he felt nothing and was at ease. My son was shocked it was over without any pain. We really miss Dr. Ross at this Roanoke dentist office. The new staff, including Dr. Tom, has been rude and unprofessional in our experience. My whole family stopped going here for various reasons, but we all agree Dr. Tom seems arrogant and cuts corners—it feels like he just wants paychecks, not to fix issues. For example, my daughter had a filling come off, and they refused to look at it even though they did the original work. Not what we expected from a family dentistry practice.

Honestly, I fly up from Florida just to see Dr. Tom at Grandin Family Dentistry in Roanoke—he's that good. The staff is always warm and welcoming, and the whole atmosphere puts me at ease. Dr. Gallagher is boastful and arrogant! He has an amazing office staff which I'm very sorry has to put up with his type of personality. I came here last year to have a busted filling repaired. The repair was quite significant being as more than half of my tooth was missing, so Dr. Gallagher did the appointment and told me he basically "reconstructed" my tooth. 6 months later I was having extreme pain throughout the gum line surrounding this tooth and went back for an appointment. I was told that my bite pattern was not lining up with the filling (which they took x-rays for on my first visit) and due to this had caused some significant root bruising. It seems that my tooth had been "reconstructed" improperly. This greatly surprised me due to Dr. Gallagher's extreme amount of confidence in himself to conduct this procedure. I was in a significant amount of pain and was sent home with a 7-Day cycle of steroids and amoxicillin and 2 5mg hydrocodone tablets. I've since taken the medication cycle, and no change. I'm still in a significant amount of pain everyday and Dr. Gallagher is unwilling to do anything other than extract the tooth. I was also told if I have a tooth extracted here, be prepared to go without pain medication as the front desk employees told me that they do not prescribe that medication even for extractions and proceeded to explain the opioid epidemic that's going on in this country to me as if I've been living under a rock for the past 5 years. I've never been to an oral surgeon that extracted teeth without prescribing pain medication. This might be a great offfice if your teeth are in immaculate condition and all you need is a cleaning as the hygienists are very nice and good at what they do. If you need some work done I would recommend going with a more humble dentist who's more interested in taking care of you than boasting of his dental wizardry.

Horrible place smells nastyyyy not clean at all, poor equipment, rude nurses...first and last time for me to go.
The doctor was reading my review in front of my kids and trying to show them that I am a bad mom and he was laughing in front of my kids making fun of me which isn't respectful at all. He gave me a medication because i have infected teeth and canceled the medication or the referring doctor because of the review I posted which is my opinion based on the experience I had. That isn't right.
For sure not recommended at all to go in this place.
Really I feel sorry for some of the nurses that works in this place.

New dentist horrible vibe. Because I cancelled my appointment I can never go back? The filling I got on one side hasn’t felt right since it was done. The nurse lady always makes fun of my name and refers to a video she has seen that jokes about the pronunciation of my name - every time I go in! I loved Dr Ross he was professional, accurate, and quick.

I just left Dr. Tom's office and felt compelled to write a review. I had nothing but the best experience from the time I called in to the time I left. When I made my initial phone call to schedule an appointment to have a crown replaced, I was not judged whatsoever when I let it be known that I hadn't been to a dentist in 7 years. Also, they were able to get me in the very next morning!
Brittany, Dr. Tom's Dental Assistant was so sweet. She made sure I was informed, prepared for what was coming next. From my x-rays to my time in the chair, she made sure I was comfortable and answered all of my questions. She is personable and found ways to relate to me, which I appreciate very much. She is an amazing asset to their team!
Jessica worked the best magic with my insurance and was able to get them to cover an additional $450 that I thought I was going to have to pay. THANK YOU, JESSICA!!
Dr. Tom was personable, gentle, and I also felt zero judgment from him. He took his time, he gave me multiple options, and was confident in his work, which made my anxiety ridden brain feel much better. He is funny and easygoing, maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but I vibed just fine with him. I appreciated him referencing his own wife or sister when saying "if you were my sister, this is what I would do". This is exactly how I feel about the people I care for and would have said the same thing.
They also were able to condense what would have been 3 visits into just 2 - I really appreciate that as well!

I can't say enough great things about Dr. Tom and his office staff. I am in the process of getting new dentures made and I have enjoyed every appointmen so far. Dr. Tom has made sure that every step is done correctly and that my new teeth will be perfect, which I am very thankful for! This was a great place for a dentist in Roanoke when Dr. Ross was there, but the new people just don't have it like he did. The office staff claimed I missed an appointment when I was actually there—the tech rushed through my cleaning and didn't even finish the polish, and apparently didn't log it in the system, but my insurance still got billed. Not a 5-star experience for dental cleanings anymore.

My husband and I have had several bad experiences with this dentistry. Twice now, they no longer take our insurance. Last year we switched our dental insurance to keep them and not restart with a new dentist, but it just happened again and right after our work had an open season to switch insurance (was an unhappy surprise to get this in the mail over the holidays and right before our next appointment). My husband also paid out of pocket once because the admin claimed they took our insurance, but ended up being of network before the first time we switched (large bill too as x-rays were taken). Seems we have to be insurance experts and switch every year with this place. Do not recommend and really unfortunate as they are so close to where we live.

Unfortunately, there are always a handful of reasons why we end up going out of network with specific insurance companies as they can be very difficult to work with. We don’t make these decisions lightly, and hate to see that this has lead to a two star review for our office. Dr. Gallaher and his team are fantastic and my kids love him. We've been taking our 3 young children to see him since he opened, and he's always gone above and beyond to make sure they are comfortable and have a positive experience. He specifically stated he does not want any kid to fear going to the dentist and he backs that up. The staff takes time to get to know them, even to the extend that they know what cartoon programs are their favorites when they come in! They're all so patient and kind. Would highly recommend Dr. Gallaher and his practice!

Everyone I’ve dealt with at Dr. Gallagher’s office is amazing. I totally forgot an appointment one day; the front office person called me to reschedule (I did have to pay a fee; but that is totally expected as I missed my appointment and they could have had another patient in my spot) When rescheduling me they got me a new appointment quickly and were very nice and professional about the entire situation.

Dr. Gallagher is awesome. Aside from his funny bed side manners he is an awesome dentist. I'm in the process of getting bridge work done and so far so good. The price was very reasonable. Everyone in the office is always so upbeat and seem to really like their job. This office is wonderful. The atmosphere is inviting. I would highly recommend Grandin Family Dentistry. Dr. Tom and his hygienists are amazing. My daughter (8) needed some dental work done and they make her feel completely at ease. They also tout her bravery so she is so proud leaving the office. All of the staff are so welcoming and friendly. Dr.Tom makes sure my daughter is always comfortable and pain free and always ensures he is doing as little work as medically necessary. The way I can tell my daughter is comfortable, her hands are never clenched. She has a relaxed posture as she watches a show on the TV in the room. Can't recommend Dr. Tom enough.
