Like others have said, calling for an appointment is nearly impossible—I couldn't get through at all in 2025 and gave up on refilling medications. Doubt I'll have better luck in 2026. It's odd for any business, but for a healthcare clinic that's supposed to help people, it's especially perplexing and sad. Sometimes it feels like patients are treated as a nuisance rather than the reason this place exists.

This place absolutely sucks. I've been waiting over 2 months for my baby's RSV vaccination in Roanoke, and you can never get in touch. It took 3 weeks just to get an appointment for my 3-month-old because their phone system was "down." I used to love it because of Angela Martin, but I guess I'll have to follow her to Bedford. Plus, a doctor forgot to send over my daughter's prescription from the NICU a month before Christmas, so all my Christmas money went to formula instead. Sooo over this place—looking for a new doc right now.

Zero stars! I work at a dental office and have been with an optometrist since 2016, so I know how things should run. I got to my appointment at New Horizons in Roanoke 10 minutes early, filled out paperwork, but by the time I got to the billers, they said they couldn't see me because my appointment time had passed. At other places, you can finish paperwork after being called back. They also didn't explain things clearly over the phone—I lost my insurance and would've paid out of pocket, but now I'm stuck.

Normally, no complaints, but right now I'm sitting here in Roanoke trying to message my doctor at New Horizons. The recording said "You're first in line, wait time 5 minutes." After 13 minutes, it said all agents are busy—push one to wait. I did, and it repeated the 5-minute wait. Seven minutes later, I got a person... who immediately transferred me to voicemail without letting me finish my sentence. This is abhorrent and absolutely unacceptable for healthcare. Do better.

I'm absolutely, horrifically, monstrously broke. One of the only places that take medicade. I also have a SUPER PHOBIA of the dentist. The dentist and the nurse were SO PATIENT with me. I was so happy I cried in the car with my husband. Every dentist I've ever been to has been absolutely un-accommodating for people with dental fears (and I'm so sorry Im terrible with names when I'm terrified, I forgot his name) my dentist was just phenomenal. Everytime I felt pain, he numbed me more instead of questioning it. My family has a huge history of being incredibly resistant to pain killers and most doctors assume we're just trying to get drugs. Thank you so much for assisting me with care, empathy, and kindness. (No, they did not prescribe me pain killers for no reason. Take ibproufen its not that bad)
The front desk are also wonderful people. One of them assisted me in getting a phone number for getting govt. assisted phones because we're struggling with payments on our current ones and they had to be shut off. You guys are by far the most empathetic and kind people I have ever met. Thank you all so so so so so much for a mind-boggling better dentist experience than I've ever had. It barely even hurts 2 days after.
Reading the reviews, I would like to add that this is a very thankless job, with a lot of hours put in, and a lot of effort and concentration (and most importantly, ew factor people's mouths are gross people.) to do this job. You all are amazing. And I will come to this dentist anytime I need work done (when I finally climb out of this hole Im in that is).
I absolutely love New Horizons in Roanoke, VA. I was really scared when I lost my job and great benefits that I'd get low-class care, but it's not like that at all. Everyone is so nice and caring. Never had a problem with the clinic. The only thing that happened is that I called the pharmacy, about 2 years ago when I was using it there, for a refill on a Sunday for a Rx that was due on Saturday. Stop by on Wednesday, the tech tells me it was too early to fill it. Ok, I leave assuming they would call me then when it's time to fill it then. No. Ended up without medication for 2 weeks - hello discontinuation syndrome. That is why I am not using their pharmacy anymore.
Otherwise the Medical department has always been great.
The call center needs to do a lot better. When a person calls and the AI says there is 1 caller in front and 3 minutes to get to the next it is false. I had to wait 30 minutes and after waiting the receptionist said HIPAA doesn’t allow me to make an appointment for my wife. She was also being smart on the phone very unprofessional and was not trying to be understanding at all. I felt as if she just wanted to get off the phone as soon as possible. People who answer phone calls should not be passive aggressive. Please this person needs more training.

I want to thank the staff of new horizons for getting me in for a emergency appointment for my tooth. I also want to thank DR Burppee for his amazing work he done . I was nervous when I first got in the dental chair but the nurse and doctor made me feel at ease. I have no more pain
If you like waiting months just to have appointments canceled last minute, this is the place for you in Roanoke. I've been a patient for a year, and only 3 out of 7 appointments weren't rescheduled—next available is always 1-2 months out, and that'll probably get rescheduled too. It's impacting my healthcare. When I actually see my NP, she's great: attentive, professional, and knowledgeable. She gets 5 stars, but the practice gets 1.

I wish I could give a negative. My husband went to the dentist and the nurse was rude. Her clothes were too tight. We waited for a long time to be seen. The doctor was very arrogant and a narcissist. We will go back there. They need all new people working there.
This place would be great except that we can never get ahold of anyone, and over the past two years any message we have left has not been returned AT ALL. They must be doing very very well to not need the services of future and past patients. They still send us automated calls for check ups but when we call back the phone is not picked up and messages are NEVER answered. If they can't be bothered to care...I can't be bothered to give them my business.
I’ve had QUITE A FEW unpleasant experiences within the time I have dealt with them. However my last visit I must admit was MUCH BETTER than in the past. When I receive FRIENDLY, Respectful, CARE & Concern then I will give good reviews/credit where they are due.
The doctor's and staff are great. But no one ever wants to answer the phone. You will call to cancel an appointment or reschedule and have to leave a message, and then get a letter saying that you could be kicked out for a no call no show. When my kids are sick it is usually hell trying to get someone on the phone, and when I leave a message, no one ever calls me back. There have been a handful of times they have but we've been coming for years. It's frustrating. The guy at the front is so nice and is always nice to my baby when I come in. The ladies are too. I just don't understand why they can't answer the phone regularly, or at least call back.
