What a great experience for my kids at this dentist office in Roanoke, VA! They're treated with love, compassion, and respect. Dr. Sheppard does so well with my kids—they actually look forward to going. The rooms have TVs playing kids' movies, and they get sunglasses so the lights aren't too bright. After their teeth cleanings, they get a token for a small prize. You can tell they really care about their little patients. RPD is a great office. They move quickly, remain friendly, and take time to answer all questions you may have. They treat you well. I highly recommend.
Honestly my mind is blown at what I just experienced. After a visit for my child to be told she needs some extensive work and would need to be put to sleep, we wanted to check with other providers as parents for two reasons, one we weren't comfortable with our child being put to sleep without one of us there to assist keeping her calm and sometimes a different set of eyes may have a different perspective. I just received a call that if they share records with another office they will no longer see our child again. As a healthcare administrator this is absurd. Daily we have patients visit our office for second opinions and if we agree with the other provider, we explain and the patient often returns to the previous surgeon. We do not hold it against patients and we often allow our patients to get second opinions if they would like. We have always loved Dr. Sheppard and his team but to me this is a red flag and I truly feel parents should know that if your child is being seen for routine cleanings they are great, but if your child happens to need more than that you are not allowed to have options as far as treatment plans with this office. To assume a parent would be okay with putting a 5 year old to sleep for extensive work after every previous visit there has been no issues and not allow them to explore options baffles me.
The staff are always so friendly and patient with my daughter. They noticed her birthday was a few days away and made sure to wish her happy birthday.

Brought my daughter in for her first dental appointment at 3.5 years old in Roanoke, VA. She's generally wary of new people and medical stuff, like most kids her age. The staff at Roanoke Pediatric Dentistry was friendly, kind, and patient with her. The front desk made us feel welcome, and the dental assistant who did the cleaning was amazing at keeping my daughter relaxed. Dr Sheppard is hands down the best pediatric dentist in the area. I literally went to every pediatric dentist I could find and none of them took the time needed to help a small child feel less nervous about what was happening. Unfortunately I didn't find Dr Sheppard until the very end of my dentist search. It would've saved me alot of time if he was the first one I went to. The difference in his visit and ALL the other dentists was unbelievable. Needless to say, my kids won't see anyone else but Dr Sheppard until they move on to an adult dentist. Thank you to Dr Sheppard and his amazing staff for always putting the kids first!

Our family has been patients of Dr. Sheppard’s for 11 years, treating all 4 of our children and 1 child as early as 2 weeks old with tongue/lip tie issues. You will not find a more kind, humble, gentle, and down to earth man. He and his staff are professional, and skilled to work specifically with children, they have never forced care or treatment on us, and my children genuinely love Dr. Shep!
