Wow, Dr. Rong and her staff in NYC are amazing. Been going there for years, and recently had a cap replaced with a crown. She walked me through the process and pricing, prepared the tooth carefully, and used 3D scans—so cool. Put on a temporary crown smoothly. Every visit shows how skilled and professional they are. I had no idea why my gums were bleeding so much. I thought I was brushing my teeth just fine, but after a checkup, they recommended a deep cleaning and showed me my xrays. They re-educated me on what I was doing wrong with my home care. The hygienist was very skillful and caring throughout the whole process. The deep cleaning was well done, and my gums haven’t bled since. Definitely worth it.

I had high hopes for Dr. Shu Ping Rong's office, but my experience was nothing short of disappointing. My wife and sister were both patients here, and we all agreed that this practice cares more about squeezing profits than delivering quality care. To make matters worse, in one of their cases, another doctor later discovered something warranting attention that was never disclosed—a clear indication of the subpar service provided.
Dr. Rong herself was rushed and dismissive, spending less than five minutes with me during an $80 implant crown evaluation. She darted between patients, leaving no time for meaningful interaction or thorough care. On top of that, her demeanor with her staff came across as less than kind, which made the environment feel tense and unprofessional.
Their impersonal approach extended to their office policies, including requiring half the payment upfront before any work is done. It became abundantly clear that we were not valued as patients but simply as sources of revenue. I ultimately chose to take my business elsewhere, and I’m relieved I did.
If you’re looking for attentive, considerate, and competent treatment, do yourself a favor and avoid this office at all costs.

Get my teeth cleanings every 3 months with Ting—hands down the most thorough hygienist I've had in decades. She's gentle and diligent, which is perfect for a hygienist. My experience at Shu Ping Rong DDS was nothing short of amazing, the dental hygienists were gentle and understanding and they made sure I was comfortable. The front reception was very clear and concise with how my insurance would factor into the procedures and helped me schedule an appointment efficiently. Overall, definitely coming back here for my next dental visit.
I recently visited this dental clinic and among several other dental clinics, I can confidently say that Shu Ping Rong DDS is by far the best one. Not only was the environment clean but the staff were also very friendly. Dr. Rong and Dr. Hung were very knowledgeable and explained in depth about the procedures that were required to maintain an ideal teeth condition. I would highly recommend this dental clinic!
I can only say great things about my recent visit to this dentist. An absolutely positive experience, everything from the receptionist to the dental hygienist to Dentist Shu. The cleaning was thorough, and they provided a great treatment plan. I can't wait for my next appointment, and that's not something anyone says when it comes down to the dentist. If you are hesitant to make an appointment, I recommend you do it right away, and you will not regret it.
I am disgusted by the way this dental office has behaved in its dealings with me. I came in as a new patient for a cleaning in late December 2024. Before coming in, I explained that I was paying out of pocket and asked for a price quote. The office quoted me $160 for the exam and cleaning, plus $10 per x-ray. The day I came in, I was informed that prices had changed and that the cleaning would now cost significantly more than the amount to which I had agreed. After some negotiations where I explained that I had received a quote by email, and that I wouldn’t accept a higher price, the office attendant agreed to let me get the cleaning for $160. However, she insisted that the x-rays would cost more than $10 each, and that a $20 fee would be added “because the dentist needs time to look at your x-ray results.” I declined getting the x-rays and settled for the cleaning and exam. This was the first red flag, but things soon took a turn for the worse. After the cleaning was over, the dentist informed me that I had five (5!) cavities. I was shocked, as I have never had more than one cavity at a time, and rarely at that. This further triggered my suspicion. On the way out, I was handed a “treatment plan” which proposed filling all five cavities and would cost me nearly $800. I have attached an image of it.
On the recommendation of a friend, I went to 209 NYC Dental, a much more reputable office, which did an exam on me about a month later and found that I had ZERO cavities. (also attached) The dentist explained to me that I had a few stains in the grooves of my teeth, but that a simple test that involves poking a dental pick into the grooves to check for stickiness proved that these were not cavities. I was shocked at the patent lack of ethics at Shu Ping Rong, but not surprised. Five cavities was simply too many to be believable.
Deeply unethical business practices like these not only cost patients money, but also contribute stress and worry to their lives as they anticipate long and painful procedures that are entirely unnecessary. And if the diagnosis I received was the result of incompetence (an inability to distinguish stains from cavities) rather than malice, that’s equally unacceptable. Shame, shame, shame on this office. Head to another dental office that will go against its short-term financial interests to be honest with you and tell you that you don’t need treatment when that’s the case. It’s worth the higher price in the long run.
Finding this clinic on a friend's recommendation marked the end of my search for a dentist. I've been coming here every six months for a cleaning for several years now. I learned the correct way to clean my teeth in order to minimize the need for other care. Any other dental problems have been handled expertly and completely.
Dr. Rong and her staff are courteous, respectful, no waiting for appointments, which have always been on time or a few minutes early.

Go to Dr. Rong's office in NYC every six months for dental cleanings. Their staff calls to remind me, so I never forget. Dr. Rong checks my oral condition and gives professional advice—she really knows my teeth. Dr. Yan filled a cavity last time, and he's great too. Love that they notify me before any treatment and explain all costs clearly. PS, their new office location is nice!
