If you’re looking for a small, local, no BS dentist, look no further! The Dr. and staff are so kind and knowledgable, and not to mention extremely affordable for the fillings I needed. Smile Spot is also named after the Dr’s dog (how cute!) The hygenist also brings her pup into work, which really helped ease my nerves during my very first appointment. I’m so glad to have found them!

Couldn't be more thrilled about stumbling upon Smile Spot Dentistry & Dr. Sellappan – you've earned a patient for life. All staff went above and beyond to inform and comfort me, even offered me a blankie! Back story: a crown fell off at work around 4:15pm, they close at 5. Natalie, bless her heart, said 'you can come in now if you'd like?' Best receptionist ever. Unfortunately I couldn't make it, but that kindness meant the world.

After two years of trying different dentists around Venice, FL, we finally found the one! Smile Spot Dentistry is amazing. Natalie, the office manager, is a star, and Dr. Sellappan and her team are the best. They truly care about you and your dental plan. Customer service is stellar. If you're in Venice looking for a new dentist, this is it. 5 stars!

Dr. Sellappan was excellent! She made sure I was comfortable through the entire procedure – I didn't feel anything as she removed a filling, refilled, and put in a temporary crown. She also treated sensitivity in another tooth. Her assistant Addi was excellent too – friendly and informative. Natalie, the office manager, was friendly and competent. Very comfortable environment. Thrilled with the restorative dentistry service.

Great experience at Smile Spot! They fixed my chipped tooth super quickly and did an amazing job. The staff was kind, professional, and made me feel comfortable. Another dentist quoted me an absurd amount, so I came to Smile Spot for a second opinion. Natalie made me feel so welcome and heard. She got me in quick when I was in pain. The office is clean and welcoming. Dr. Sellappan explained everything in a way I could understand. Super happy with the treatment I received and will definitely recommend to friends and family in Venice.

First appointment today and the entire experience was spectacular! Natalie, the front desk associate, was wonderful and welcoming – got me in quick and painlessly. The hygienist and dentist were amazing and extremely knowledgeable. Happy I found my new dentist in Venice. Will recommend to all family and friends for general dentistry and cleanings.

TL;DR: Avoid this dental office. I recently moved to Florida from San Francisco and was looking for a new dental home after nearly a decade with the same dentist. After reading many positive reviews and having a pleasant phone conversation with the front office staff, I decided to book an appointment with Smile Spot Dentistry. I clearly explained that I was a new patient, pregnant, would not be getting X-rays, and was simply due for a routine cleaning. As a self-pay patient, the pricing seemed reasonable and they were able to schedule me quickly. When I arrived a few minutes early for my appointment, my first impression was great. The front desk staff was warm and welcoming, the office was clean, modern, and beautifully renovated, and I was offered water while I waited. I genuinely wanted to like this dentist and hoped it would become my long-term dental office. Unfortunately, that’s where the positive experience ended. After sitting in the waiting room for over 30 minutes past my appointment time, I asked the receptionist whether the office typically runs behind. As a nurse, I deeply value time and communication, and I believe transparency goes a long way—especially when patients are waiting. I was told the doctor had surgery that morning and was running late. This information could (and should) have been communicated when I checked in or during the wait. Instead, I was told to “relax, these things happen,” which felt dismissive and unprofessional. Shortly after, I was told they could “get me started on X-rays.” I again reminded them that I was pregnant and would not be getting X-rays and was there solely for a cleaning. I was then taken back to an exam room, where two staff members entered without introducing themselves or explaining their roles. One eventually introduced herself only after I initiated the conversation, but still did not clarify her position. I was asked about my pregnancy, then questioned about prior X-rays and dental records. While I understand the importance of dental history, at no point during scheduling was I told that having records or X-rays was required for a routine cleaning. Had I known, I would have gladly arranged for them to be sent over ahead of time. Another staff member briefly looked in my mouth for about 30 seconds—without explaining what she was doing—and then stated they needed to wait for the doctor before proceeding with a cleaning. At this point, I was confused and frustrated. Why bring me back? Why look in my mouth? Why was there no clear plan or explanation? As a new patient, especially one who is pregnant, clear communication and comfort are essential. I was told they needed the doctor to sign off before starting a cleaning to ensure there were no issues—something I understand in theory, but in practice it was handled extremely poorly. The entire experience felt disorganized, unclear, and uncomfortable. Dentistry is already anxiety-provoking for many people, and this only made it worse. I calmly stated that I would not be staying and would not be receiving care that day. As I attempted to leave, the situation escalated unnecessarily. At the front desk, while explaining why I was leaving, another staff member told me to “lower my voice.” I was not yelling or being disrespectful—my voice simply carries. At that point, I chose to walk out rather than continue an uncomfortable interaction. After sitting in my car to collect myself, the receptionist followed me outside to my car and offered me a free cleaning if I stayed. That crossed a boundary for me. I declined and left. While the office looks beautiful and the initial phone interaction was pleasant, professionalism, communication, and patient comfort matter far more. Based on my experience, I would not return (neither will my family of 5) and cannot recommend this dental office—especially to new patients or pregnant patients who deserve clear communication and respectful care.

Had a wonderful experience with Dr. Sellappan and her team. From the moment I walked in, the staff was caring and friendly. The office is modern, clean, and relaxing – they even offer pillows, blankets, and drinks, which really helps with dental anxiety. Dr. Sellappan is skilled and professional, takes time to explain everything. Felt confident and informed throughout my visit in Venice.

I have known Dr. Sellappan for many years her work is incredible her kind chair side manners is unbelievable. She is understanding when it comes to finances, her staff is amazing her hygienist Olga has such a kind and understanding about my fear's in a dental chair. She is a family oriented person loves her job and her staff her office so inviting. I have told all my family and friends to go it was such an amazing experience. Five star approved

The Smile Spot team are an absolute pleasure to go to. No one wants to go to the dentist, but they make the experience enjoyable. The team I've been able to interact with have been a joy. You can tell they really care about what they do and the patients they serve. I've had difficulties (as we all do) with payments, and insurance, and the type of care needed and I'm probably a difficult patient in that I ask a LOT of questions. However, despite all this, they've always shown me nothing but patience, understanding and care. So happy to have this group in Venice. They deserve all the stars!

Dr. Meena Sellapan is an excellent and amazing doctor. All the office staff is very efficient and very helpful. Dr. Meena took care of my daughter very well and made needed referral immediately. Me and my family is very happy having her as our family dentist. I highly recommend Dr. Meena to anyone. She is also very knowledgeable doctor.

I found Smile Spot Dentistry by searching for an emergency dentist for my elderly mom who had an infection and swelling and needed emergency treatment. Dr. Sellappan and her entire staff were very gentle, kind and patient with my mother (and me too!) They fully explained our options and developed a treatment plan that would address all of my mom's dental issues. Dr. Sellappan worked fast and was able to take care of the infection as the first priority, then was able to restore my mom's teeth and smile in only a few visits. My mom is thrilled to no longer have missing teeth! The office is very clean and comfortable and the entire staff has been wonderful to deal with. We would definitely recommend Smile Spot Dentistry both as an emergency dentist and also as a regular dentist. They always called to follow up to make sure my mom was doing well and took the time to answer all our questions. We both feel she got excellent care. Thank you for all you've done to help my mom!

Dr. Sellappan is the only dentist I will see! She is amazing. The Smile Spot feels like a day spa. As soon as you walk in, you get greeted by the receptionist and offered a water. They've got relaxing music playing in the lobby. There was no wait! I was in the back within minutes. When my procedure was about to start, they gave me a blanket so I felt comfortable. There was a TV on the ceiling, so as she's doing my work, I was watching TV. The whole experience was top tier 🤌 Additionally, I could say just as many wonderful things about Dr. Sellappan. She took the time to listen to my needs and answer all my questions. She explained everything that she was doing and checked my comfort levels the whole time. She wanted to make sure that everything was perfect. I won't go anywhere else! I would highly recommend SmileSpot. 10 out of 10.

What a stunning office! But that's not the best part. Natalie at the front desk is informative, bright, and cheerful. Then the assistant greeted me and quickly got me to my comfortable chair. Dr. Sellappan introduced herself and thoroughly explained my treatment needs. Nice and comforting place for all your dental needs in Venice. 5-star service all around!

I had an excellent experience at smile spot dentistry. The entire team was so professional and caring. I went for deep cleaning, cavity filling, and a wisdom tooth surgery — everything was done very smoothly and with great care. The doctor Meenakshi explained each step clearly and made sure I was comfortable throughout the procedures. Narley , the receptionist she was very polite, helpful with scheduling, and made the whole process easy. Highly recommend this dental clinic for anyone looking for quality dental care and a friendly environment!
