It’s been a relief to find a dentist just as good as my last after moving. Dr. Sumner is a pro at extracting wisdom teeth. He explained everything that would happen before the procedure and ensured I was completely comfortable before carrying on. Also, a huge shoutout to Ivan at the front desk. My man knows my name by heart from only 3 visits. You’re in good hands here!

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I was looking for a new dentist that was closer to me and found South Coast Smiles through my dental insurance portal. My first impressions weren’t bad the office staff was friendly. However once I had an exam done the dental hygienist said I had gingivitis or stage one periodontitis and pockets that were 4-6 which shocked me because I never had this problem before. They also claimed their X-ray which used AI showed bone loss. I floss and brush twice a day while also using mouth rinse so again I was shocked to hear this. It also made me distraught when I was told this was a chronic irreversible condition. She then pushed an expensive treatment that was not covered by insurance that included laser irrigation and deep cleaning. They also pushed for a saliva DNA test. They also refused to do a regular cleaning until the gum issue was dealt with. When I left the office I hadn’t decided what I wanted to do but later when I made the next appointment I told them I just wanted to do the minimum root scaling. When I went in for that appointment I was instantly met with questions about why I didn’t want the full procedure. The hygienist did end up doing it after several minutes of arguing but it was only 20 minutes. Root scaling should take longer than that according to my research. I left that appointment feeling that nothing had really been done and they told me to come back in three months.
Now I didn’t end up doing that and this all occurred about six months ago. Since then I moved out of state and went to a new dentist. Today I had an appointment where they did a full exam and X-rays and was surprised and happy to learn that my gums were fine and the pockets were all good as well at 1-3. They also found no evidence of bone loss.
I’ve been to several different dentists in my lifetime and South Coast Smiles was the first to ever say I had gum issues and the first to be extremely pushy about a treatment that insurance didn’t cover. Another thing I noticed was the lobby was completely empty when I went. This whole experience caused me unnecessary stress and anxiety especially after I was told that this would be a lifetime issue. I’m glad I had a strong support system that pointed out several red flags about this place. Please ask questions or get a second opinion when confronted with optional expensive procedures.

Big shoutout to Ivan and the crew. All of them had very good hospitality and was very helpful. Was my first time coming in and they made it very smooth and easy. Had to schedule my wisdom tooth surgery and Ivan helped put my mind at ease and make me feel comfortable with moving forward. Mind you I have to get 4 REMOVED 😂.Definitely recommend!

I had to look for a new dentist after a move and a new job, and I'm so glad I found this place!!! Dr. Atalla is amazing! She is very kind and thoroughly explains everything, it is very clear she is extremely knowledgeable and a great doctor. Everyone I interacted with was very nice and extremely helpful, Cathy, Gustavo, Juliette and Marie! Marie was so sooooo patient as I struggled sorting through payment plan options and figured out a double account issue, I felt so bad that it took so long and she waited and helped me with a smile on her face the whole time. Beware of Unethical Practices!!! Their care approach appears to prioritize additional billable procedures over standard clinical care. The hygienist (Juliet) insisted on optional procedures (laser, irrigation, and Arestin) for my wife before providing evidence-based SRP (Deep Cleaning), even though my wife's dental chart clearly showed 5 mm pockets and radiographic bone loss - early stage Periodontitis.
When I requested to bypass these adjunct procedures and proceed straight to deep cleaning, they refused treatment for my wife, accused me of wanting them to commit insurance fraud as they wanted her to complete the optional procedures first. According to ADA/AAP guidelines, these adjuncts are not required as first-line treatment. Deep cleaning is the first-line, gold standard for any confirmed or suspected early-stage periodontitis. Most, if not all other offices would’ve scheduled SRP immediately based on her charts/x-rays.
When I confronted them with this fact, Juliet said we were “not a good fit moving forward.” and that I was “telling them how to do their jobs,” even though I was simply citing standard treatment guidelines that they are not following.
I have requested my records and will be going to a non‑shady family practice. I recommend everyone seek a second opinion before agreeing to elective adjunct procedures that this office frames as clinically necessary. Also be aware that many of their Google reviews appear to come from profiles with low numbers of reviews, so I recommend taking them with caution.
Additionally, double-check quoted prices for each procedure. On multiple occasions, this office overquoted me, and when I asked them to verify with my insurance, the price was drastically reduced.

I started with this dentist recently. I’ve been to a few appointments and have been very happy with the service. The office is clean and the equipment is modern. I have to be on a more aggressive cleaning schedule than the average person. Juliette worked on me, recommended some additional treatments and did a great job! Not only that, but she had some really good suggestions for products and care at home. I’m looking forward to see how things are doing at my next appointment. If you’re considering this location, I think you will be happy with your decision. :)
