First visit was amazing. X-rays are usually awful, but Shelley made them the best experience ever. They got me in with Malinda for a cleaning same day, and Dr. Gebhart was super understanding and professional. Can't recommend this Charlotte dentist enough for dental hygiene and cleanings.

Honestly, best dental experience I've ever had. From the front desk to the hygienist, service was impeccable. In and out in under 2 hours for a root canal, crown, and full cleaning. The front desk woman Emmaleigh had a very nasty attitude. When I walked in, it smelled like a burger joint. One dental assistant started spraying Febreze in the lobby because of the three front desk staff who just eat and gossip about patients. I witnessed it myself. Terrible experience! Get a break room and do better, receptionists!

Went in for a cleaning and was told I needed a cleaning-cleaning (not a deep clean mind you) plus a filling which I question.
My insurance pays 100% of cleanings and fillings. Other services are a $50 co-pay and the max per year is $1,250.
On my visit, they wanted $240 just to do the left side (after insurance), THEN, another $240 on my next appointment to do the other side. Now I see a $1,607 charge to my insurance company for I assume x-rays (also 100% covered). So, if I go to a different dentist that isn’t trying to rip me off, I’ve already reached my max on the year. Shotty explanation and I definitely will not be back to them ever again.

I switched to this office because they accepted my insurance. I only needed a simple crown replacement on a tooth that had zero issues for over 10 years. After my appointment, I spent the next five days in excruciating pain—pain I never had with the original crown.
When I called, I was brushed off and told that “pain is normal after a crown.” I had to push just to get another appointment. I saw Dr. Gephart, who gave me the same line… until I insisted something was wrong. After finally examining the tooth, he discovered the crown wasn’t sealed properly and that there was a gap exposing my root. His solution? Remove the crown and redo it. So now I’m terrified, in pain, out $1600 out-of-pocket, my insurance already billed, and I have to go through the whole process again. I took more time off work and had the crown redone. Icing on the cake, they billed me for redoing the crown! I refused to pay.
Fast forward two months: I’m eating a piece of bread and the crown falls off. Again my root is exposed and I’m in severe pain. I called the emergency number—only to be told no one could see me and to “call Monday.” I was flying out of the country Monday morning, but still no effort to help me—not at this office or any Smile Generation location.
Overseas, I found a dentist who was shocked that a crown had fallen off after only two months and that my root was still exposed. I had to pay again to have it put back temporarily.
When I returned, I called Modern Dentistry and was told the soonest appointment was 10 days out. Only when I said I would write a negative review did they suddenly “find” something sooner. At that point my trust was completely gone, so I cancelled.
I’ve now had three major issues with this crown, I still have root problems, and the crown still does not fit correctly. And now I’ll have to pay another dentist to fix everything I already paid this office to do. I will absolutely be submitting a formal complaint to the Board of Dentistry for this incident.
Save your time, your money, and your pain. Go anywhere else.

I had a very distressing experience at this office. During my appointment, I was told 2D images were “routine” but was never informed they were not covered by insurance or given the option to decline. The dentist initially greeted me and went straight to wanting to fix my open bite. I never mentioned issues or complaints with my smile. He then proceeded to examine my gums after giving backstory of what I had done at a dentist last year, but that visit was the first I had with dentist in over 3 years. The gum exam was extremely painful, and I left the chair in tears. I was suddenly told I had “severe gingivitis” with 7mm pockets, despite never having any history of even moderate gingivitis or major dental problems. Without explanation, I was then stated to have bone loss, referred for gum surgery, jaw reconstructive surgery, and told I needed a deep cleaning (not covered by insurance) before completing my regular preventive visit and cleaning or seeing the periodontist. The dentist said he would return, left abruptly, and had an assistant explain the treatment plan instead. He never returned and she walked me to the front desk after asking for tissue from crying.
After sharing this with a friend who is a dentist, I learned that the parent company, Pacific Dental Services, is known for pushing dentists to meet quotas and metrics. My friend also confirmed there is no way that the imaging taken during this visit could support such a diagnosis or justify aggressive recommendations like bone loss, severe gum disease, periodontal surgery, and reconstructive jaw surgery for a 32-year-old female with no significant dental history.
This experience left me feeling financially misled, unsupported, and pressured into unnecessary treatment. Patients deserve compassion, transparency, and evidence-based care — not fear tactics or upselling. I will never return here or refer anyone here. I will now always look at all dentists websites to see if they have the PDS (Pacific Dental Service-parent company)logo (circle of teeth with one blue tooth in the top left) and are a part of a larger chain that values money more than patients.

Amazing dentist and staff. I've had very bad luck with dentist in the past but I finally feel like I found a dice that I'm going to stick with. Beth is the absolute best dental hygienist. She made me feel comfortable. I've had many issues with TMJ and she knew exactly how to handle this situation. I left pain free for the first time in a long time after going to the dentist.
