New to the area in Columbus, GA, I had a toothache and got seen quickly at Sweetgums Dental. They did X-rays and prescribed antibiotics, and I mentioned being on a budget with insurance. After two appointments, they said I needed a periodontal cleaning not covered, so I declined. Now there's an unexplained bill—definitely ask questions and check around before going.

Went in July 2025 for an annual in Columbus, GA, and needed a few procedures. After X-rays, they booked multiple appointments—first a debridement, then another for the next step. The technician was rough and heavy-handed. Two months later, extreme tooth pain hit over a weekend when the office was closed, leaving me crying and unable to sleep. Not a great experience with their scheduling or care.

For military buddies or anyone in Columbus, GA, needing a dentist, I'd avoid Sweetgums Dental. The dental technician was heavy-handed and hurt my daughter's mouth badly—we had to get a new one while still going there. When I called, they said it'd be over three months for an appointment, and after I complained, they canceled us and said we weren't welcome. Honestly, it worked out for the best.

Wonderful place!!! My dentist that I had for 30 yrs retired and Sweetgums was recommended.Ms Smith at the front desk is always polite and professional. Theresa the dental hygienist is awesome. She listen to my concerns (if I have any) and is very thorough when cleaning my teeth. When Dr Lockhart comes and examines me she’s always very cheerful and concerned about my oral health.

I normally don’t write reviews, but I believe I should in this occasion. We had a great experience, not only with the hygienists and all the personnel, but the doctor was amazing. Everyone is very sweet in that office. They will address your issues in a matter that you will understand. I was also very impressed to find out that my mom did not need a procedure that another dentist had requested. Very honest and I will definitely recommend them.
From the moment I got there, there was such a good vibe in the office. Everyone was smiling! I didn't get an attitude from staff because I forgot to fill out paperwork. Every single person involved in my visit was personable, professional and knowledgeable. I had been waiting to fix my tooth for so long because I was told I needed work that I actually didn't need by another dentist. The solution to my tooth problem was much more simple. Sweetgums saved me in so many ways today! Highly recommend! So glad I found them!
Time and time I have had some issues with the staff and the appointment scheduling. I endured some horrible experiences here. When I got a partial done it was an extremely long process. Overall they have an extremely long process of appointment scheduling that’s very inconvenient to the patients. Not only have I experienced these issues but I know of others as well. During the holidays of 2023 I got my teeth pulled with the promises that they would work hard to ensure I had them before Christmas. I did not receive the partial until January 2024 after the new year with out-of-pocket expenses that could have been prevented if they would have been honest about the date they will be received for insurance billing purposes... My holiday smile was ruined, and I was not able to take pictures smiling with my family to allow me to feel comfortable. The dentist is supposed to make you feel comfortable.
They give you a 10 minute grace. My appointment was at 8:30. I arrived at 8:41 and the receptionist at the front desk advised me that I will have to reschedule because of one minute.. I received my confirmation today what I was struggling with due to the experience that I had November 11 of 2023. If they were Adamant about pleasing the customer as they are about one minute over your grace period, I would not be writing this review today! Your customer should be top priority! I pray this feedback is taken for improvement.

We do not give timeframes on such procedures because we are working with other entities and we do not know their timeframes. Grace periods are put in place to ensure an efficient flow in our schedule and so that each patient have adequate time for proper treatment. We pride ourselves in making sure all patients are treated with respect and have the standard care that they deserve and not feel rushed.
