First visit to Tarpon Shores Dental in Venice—everyone was super welcoming and answered all my questions. I've got more appointments coming up, so we'll see how it goes. The team seems great. But then today I was supposed to have a follow-up and a consultation with the endodontist about whether to extract my tooth or send me to an oral surgeon. I called twice last Friday to get an update but still hadn't heard back by my appointment.

After several months of treatment, I'm pretty disappointed. Getting a crown turned into a long, drawn-out ordeal with multiple visits and adjustments. Six months later, I'm still dealing with sensitivity. The dentist was nice enough, but the billing was a nightmare—estimates were way off, and months after treatment I'm still getting surprise bills.

Yogi is the man—super gentle and thorough. Probably the best cleaning I've ever had. Making appointments was easy, and getting text alerts for cancellations is money. Great for teeth whitening and general care too.

The most friendly,courteous, respectful and completely professional office I’ve ever had the privilege to be associated with. No one wants to need an endodontist but maybe you could make believe you need a root canal so you could meet these wonderful people.

The dentist and hygienist were excellent—5 stars for them. But billing has been a nightmare since July. I have an EOB showing payment was made, but no one returns my calls. Krista said it was fixed back in July, but as of yesterday it still wasn't cleared up. I dropped off the EOB again today, and the front desk didn't give me much confidence.

I've hated the dentist since I was a kid, but Dr. Mac changed that. His practical approach to my treatment plan was great. Recently got a bridge and didn't feel a thing. Easiest dental experience ever. No more dentist anxiety—looking forward to more restorative dentistry here.

Upselling & Dishonest Business Practices!…the office leads you to believe insurance will cover services that dental insurance won’t pay for, make you pay expenses before you leave after providing two different prices and will still bill you for additional fees that insurance didn’t reimburse them months later.
BEWARE of up-charging and unexpected out-of-pocket fees!!! You need to ask if every little service being provided is covered by your insurance and you will need to verify on your own or you will pay dearly! Don’t trust what the assistants and staff tell you and don’t sign their financial waiver. This corporate dentist office is only looking to make money $$$.
Dr. Dockus & hygienist (4 stars) provided thorough examination/ cleaning and explained treatment plan but never mentioned "additional out-of-pocket cost until " Dr left the room. His dental assistant, then shows me the treatment plan and tells me that I will owe them $118 today after the cleaning for gum treatment that is needed. Now, I've never paid for dental cleanings in the past because my insurance covers @ 100%. Despite my shock w/ cost, I agreed because I needed my teeth cleaned and was told this would help protect my gums. Post cleaning and at check out I was charged $136 total.
It was also recommended that I schedule my cleanings every 3-4 months. However, my insurance only covers 2 cleanings per year (every 6 months).
Prior to my exam, a full oral cancer screening was recommended which I declined after asking if it was included and paid by insurance...it wasn't and would have cost me an additional $75.
Really like the Dentist & Hygenist, but not their shady business practices of trying to get more money (nickel & dime) out of their patients. Needless to say I won’t be back.
They need to be more transparent with costs upfront when scheduling visits!!!
UPDATE:
After writing this review, Jordan their practice manger called me and left a message saying that she identified costs that I would be reimbursed for. Today 10/29, I receive a text and email saying that I owe an addition $53 after paying $136 at my visit. These people are looking to rob you!! Their billing dept is inept and they will try to get you to schedule cleanings every 3-4 months, despite insurance only paying for 2 cleaning a year.
Both my mother-in-law and wife went here and were SOLD services that “are covered by insurance”, but months later they were billed $200 and $80 respectively.
Stay away!!!!
My wife had three fillings with Dr. Dockus. She gets really anxious at the dentist, but he made her feel at ease. The procedure went super well. She's so happy to have found a caring dentist for restorative dentistry in Venice.

Went in to see if I needed a root canal, mainly because they take my insurance. The staff and endodontist were friendly and efficient. Turned out I don't need one right now. Liked them so much I'm thinking about switching my cleanings and other dental work here.

Honestly, as dentist visits go, this was really nice. The staff is pleasant, and the doctor makes you feel comfortable. Rogi the hygienist cleaned my teeth—seriously the best cleaning I've ever had, and I normally hate that part. Highly recommend this place for dental cleanings!

Dr. Varley performed a root canal on one of my molars. It was the best experience I have had. It was painless; he and his assistant were pleasant and very professional. The office staff were delightful and helpful as well. I highly recommend the practice and will gladly return.

I don’t usually write reviews, but oh my. I got a new hygienist, Yogi. Let me tell you, he is the BEST dental hygienist I have EVER experienced. You can tell that he cares for his patients, he builds rapport, and shares his wealth of knowledge. He walked me through each step and gave me warning of what he was going to do. I asked him questions and he was able to explain how things occur & what to do to prevent infections. I’ve always hated going to the dentist but Yogi made it pleasant. He also gave me a foam for fluoride instead of the tacky stuff. The dentist himself is also very great at explaining why things occur. But the hygienist is who spends the most time on your teeth, and he was absolutely amazing!!

Highly recommend if you are looking for a dentist in Venice area. The front office staff, the doctors and the cleaning specialists are excellent. Top notch. I’ve had decades of dental work performed unfortunately but I can say this is one the best practices I’ve experienced.

New patient- Everyone was friendly. Exam was thorough. I do not like going to dentists because of past experiences. But things were calm, peaceful and helped me relax. Dr Dockus explained everything and exam was painless. Yogi was my hygienist. He by far was the most thorough but gentle hygienist. I won't be nervous and stressed to go back. Thanks!
